Coming soon: Improvements to the CareLearn system

CareLearn is moving to a new system by June 30. This change will make training easier to use and easier to access, especially on mobile devices.

If you do NOT need training right away,

please wait to create a CareLearn account until the new system is live!

Why wait?

  • You won’t have to set up your account twice
  • You’ll start directly in the new and improved system
  • You’ll have a smoother, faster setup

What’s changing and why

Our current system is being retired and no longer meets our needs. The new system will be simpler, faster, and more reliable. It will help caregivers spend less time dealing with CareLearn issues and more time focused on their work and the people they support.

What this means for you

  • Easier login (no SAW account needed)
  • Works better on phones and tablets
  • Faster setup for new users
  • Easier to find and complete courses
  • Certificates and transcripts available on phones and tablets

If you need training right away, you can still create an account in the current system. Please understand that new account setup may be limited to urgent needs only as we prepare for the change.

Thank you for your patience and support as we make this improvement.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the CareLearn Team at CareLearnsupport@dshs.wa.gov.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at CareLearnsupport@dshs.wa.gov if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • Go to your CareLearn “Timeline” and check for courses that have “Status: In Progress”. Finish these courses by early June in order to get credit for them. If you do not finish them, you will need to restart them in the new system. Only fully completed courses will transfer to the new system.
  • Review  your “Training Transcript” and make sure it is correct.
  • Get ready to save a copy of your transcript and download any certificates you may need for back-up before we change systems.
  • Check your email for updates and important deadlines.

Yes, you won’t need to use SAW any more to use CareLearn. There will still be steps to let the system confirm that you are who you say you are. This helps us protect your data and the system. But the new way of doing this is much easier and quicker than SAW.

  • You won’t need to use SAW to get into CareLearn.
  • You won’t need an app on your phone because the web version works well.
  • You can access a course certificate or your transcript from your phone or mobile device to show proof of your continuing education (CE).
  • You can more easily search for courses by topic, time frame and need.

All active CareLearn accounts will be moved to the new system automatically.

Leading up to the system change, we’re trying to inactivate accounts that aren’t being used. If your account is inactivated and not automatically moved to the new system, you can create a new account in the new and improved system in July 2026.

You’ll get an email when we change systems letting you know and asking you to follow instructions for logging into your account in the new system.

That will also be a good time to update your account information, if needed.

Yes, the courses you’ve completed in CareLearn will be included with your account when we change systems.

However, it may take some time for courses you’ve completed before 5/1/2025 to be updated in the new system. So, it’s a good idea to save your transcript and recent certificates for back up before we change systems.

Yes. Our current plan is to move all the courses into the new system. Some non-CE content, like informational resources, may be retired and not moved to the new system or may be moved later on.

There are some differences and many improvements in the new system. Overall, you’ll still:

  • Have a user account.
  • Review what courses are available to take in the course catalog.
  • Start and navigate courses in a similar way.
  • Complete courses and then have a course certificate emailed to you.
  • Have a transcript that shows a summary of your completed courses.
